Happy Summer Solstice! We’re celebrating the official first day of summer by hopping on a plane tomorrow morning headed to California to spend some time in beautiful Sonoma County with my very best friends. It’s one of our favorite places in the country, and we try to visit every couple of years. The last time we were there (the photo you see above is from that trip; look how little Essley was!) I was pregnant with Emmett, so this will be his first time to really get to enjoy it with us.
There will be a post here tomorrow (and it’s a good one so be sure to come back!), but after that I’ll be taking the rest of the week off the blog. Our normal posting schedule will resume on Monday, June 26th. And as always, you can follow along with our adventures on our Instagram. (I’m sure I’ll be doing my usual oversharing in our IG stories.)
Enjoy the longest day of the year, friends!

When fire struck a factory in South Carolina, a pit bull mix sprang into action to protect her puppies. Not only did she manage to save herself, but she also saved all of her puppies. Now they all get their happily ever after.
According to ABC News, the mother dog (now known as Miracle), was picked up on the road after the fire. The good Samaritan who helped her, had seen Miracle coming and going from the factory. Victoria McGonigal, owner of Dochas n Gra Animal Rescue and Sanctuary told reporters that “the day she got picked up was the day the warehouse had a fire. They took her to animal control and realized she had a broken front left leg and… she was still producing milk, so she had puppies somewhere.”
Unfortunately the local fire department told animal control that it wouldn’t be safe to go to the factory and search for the puppies. After four days, the fire department gave their okay and an animal control officer headed to the factory with Miracle in hopes of finding the puppies. Miracle led the officer directly to her puppies who were all safely hidden and waiting for their mother’s return.

‘There is something about the human condition. I don’t think dogs are like “If only I was a poodle instead of a golden retriever, I’d be totally happy.” Dogs are happy with who they are.’

My neighbors are wonderful people they are also refugees. They came to America legally to escape the radical Islamic opression fearing for their young daughters' futures. They voted for Trump. I have worked tirelessly for bully breeds. I have gone sar far as to file lawsuits against towns that attempt to enact BSL. I was raised in the foster care system and left home at age 14. There were no government grants, scholarships or aid for foster kids living on the street who graduate on the honor roll. Nobody understands oppression moreso than me. I voted for Trump. While I'm certainly happy for these families and thankful for the work they've done in behalf of tge breed…I'm a bit confused as to why the bully forum has decided that this is the platform from which they should disenfranchise half of their supporters.

Yesterday morning, Irie and Tiki were a little lazy getting out of bed–and it’s a good thing they were! In our yard was the largest wild turkey I’ve seen out here, pacing back and…
