Arizona Puppy Mill Survivors Get Some Love with The Humane Society of the United States and Halo

Halo Pets donates to Arkansas puppy mill survivors

Earlier this month, The Humane Educational Society (HES) partnered with The Humane Society of the United States to help rescue about 50 pets from an Arkansas puppy mill.

All of the dogs found on the property required immediate lifesaving care. The dogs received the appropriate vaccinations from Northeastern Arkansas Humane Society before traveling across state lines to HES where they will be treated for severe neglect. There, we will provide the best pet food using only WHOLE meat (and never “meat meals” of any kind) for a feeding program to help them regain a healthy weight.

Thank you Humane Educational Society, Northeastern Arkansas Humane Society and The Humane Society of the United States for making a WHOLE lot difference for pets in your community.

When you choose Halo pet food, made from natural, whole food ingredients, your pet won’t be the only one with a radiant coat, clear eyes and renewed energy. Halo feeds it forward, donating over 1.5 million bowls annually. As always, Halo will donate a bowl to a shelter every time YOU buy. Thank you for helping #HaloFeeditForward.

WHOLE Lot of Difference: San Diego Humane Society

San Diego Humane Society logo

The San Diego Humane Society has been serving the San Diego County community since 1880 and has campuses in San Diego, Escondido, and Oceanside. They provide vital services to animals and people by sheltering and adopting animals, providing positive reinforcement training classes, investigating animal cruelty and neglect, presenting education programs for youth and adults, and much more.

Halo is proud to partner with Freekibble.com and GreaterGood.org to make a WHOLE lot of difference for shelter pets together.

Here’s what The San Diego Humane Society had to say about a recent Halo Pets donation:

“The food donation has helped keep hundreds of families together by providing nutritious food for our clients’ pets.”

The food donation has helped keep hundreds of families together by providing nutritious food for our clients’ pets. The In-Home Service currently provides food and support services to 520 people and 657 pets and the Pantry Service helps more than 2,000 people and 3,000 animals by providing supplemental bags of pet food during times of need. It has made it possible for PAWS San Diego to keep these deserving pet families together in the face of hardship.

In-Home Service client Betty and her cat, Harley, are just two of the lives that have been directly impacted by your generous food donation. Betty says that because she is an “old lady,” and her cat Harley is an “old man,” they keep each other company and that life is worth living because Harley is in it. Their story is a true testament to the human-animal bond and the many ways that pets make our lives better – something that is especially profound for the vulnerable people and pets that we help.

Joe moved to San Diego from San Francisco, where he worked full time as a web designer. He was recently diagnosed with a degenerative disease that has rendered him unable to work. He now lives on a very fixed income and relies on food stamps, yet his infectious personality still shines through. Joe says that his dog, Venus, is his reason for waking up in the morning, especially on those tough days. Joe was very relieved to learn about the PAWS Pantry Service, through which he and Venus receive supplemental pet food once per month. Joe says the support is a huge help and he is happy to have his best friend by his side.”

So excellent. I'm very happy for the whole family.

I've been privileged to introduce two different Amstaffs to the wonderful world of cats. Both adored the cat and were very gentle their whole lives. Takes time and patience.

Observant Dog Saves Elderly Neighbor

Zeus the Observant Dog

Sometimes people worry about living next door to a dog. For one elderly man in Australia, he’s lucky that he did. After falling in his backyard and being unable to get help, Zeus, a neighbor’s observant dog, came to the rescue.

According to The Weekend Courier Community, the 96-year-old man had fallen in his backyard and injured himself. He was unable to get up and was not easily visible. After falling, he lay in the backyard for more than two days, becoming severely dehydrated. Then, the man’s neighbor, Mick Condo, noticed his dog staying near the fence separating their properties. Zeus, a black Staffordshire Terrier-type dog was whimpering, too, which also caught Mick’s attention.

According to Mick, Zeus “was whining for about an hour and wouldn’t come away from the fence.” Mick listened hard and, in his words, “heard a faint ‘please help me’ and I realized my elderly neighbor was in trouble.”

Millennials and Their Music

Today at the gym I got into one of those really useful insightful discussions with a bearded, man-bun BilaBong millennial – yeah those guys – about the best workout music so to get out of my ‘Why so serious?’ posts tonight I write about 80s dance music.
Warning – be prepared to relive your youth or learn how to really be hip

Exhibit A for the prosecution.  New York, New York by Micro Chip League (MCL).  A staple at Curfew Austin and when it played the whole club lit up with glow ropes.  Listening to it now it’s some strange synthetic segue from 50s swing to the rave scene incorporating the Atari man voice.  How cool is that?
Exhibit B.  Why the newfound unhealthy obsession with Russia eludes me but hey kids this song came out before the wall came down when we were at the brink with communism.  Look if you’re going to spazz out about the return of the good ole USSR – at least do so to dance and what better than CCCP American Soviets
Exhibit C.  And while you’re getting a history lesson I know this may burst your little snowflake bubbles but you didn’t invent protesting racism, sexism, fascism.  Gen 80s didn’t either but unlike the great lyricists before us viz., Lennon & Dylan, we made it all freaky cool.  Lose the anger on the FLOOR!  Consolidated.
Definitely on the playlist tonight:  A Split Second Rigor Mortis, Front 242 Headhunter, Nitzer Ebb Join in the Chant
There’s more – oh so many more – but at this point I fear the millennials are running for their safe zones.
——–
YBD’s Notes 1:  Actually, I have a fondness for Millennials – they’re rather cute.  In all seriousness, fool is the one who doesn’t learn from the youth.  However….
YBD’s Notes 2:  The sooner millennials learn this French phrase the better prepared for life you’ll be:  ’Plus ca change plus c’est la meme chose.’  You’re really not that special my friends.  And your music kinda sucks although some of it is retro 80s now and getting interesting.
YBD’s Notes 3:  Back in the day, us old timers didn’t have no Internet and we couldn’t understand a single thing most of these songs were saying.  But that wasn’t really the point to it.  So if’n one of you whippersnappers look up the lyrics, don’t waste yer time posting if you’re offended.  I don’t care and I’m too busy dancing.
